For donors

Give once. Help it go 25% further.

If you are eligible, Gift Aid can add 25p to every £1 you donate—at no extra cost to you. Add25 helps make the declaration process clearer and easier.

How it works

A small declaration can make a bigger difference.

Your charity uses the declaration to reclaim basic-rate tax on eligible donations from HMRC. You should only add Gift Aid when the eligibility statement is true for you.

01

Check

Read the eligibility statement and make sure you pay enough UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax.

02

Declare

Provide the details required for a valid declaration and identify the charity you support.

03

Keep it current

Tell the charity if your details or tax circumstances change and affect your declaration.

What 25% looks like

Your £40 donation could be worth £50.

The extra £10 comes from HMRC, not from your bank account. The charity can use it to support more of its work.

  • £10 donation + £2.50 Gift Aid
  • £40 donation + £10 Gift Aid
  • £100 donation + £25 Gift Aid

Donor questions

Before you declare.

Does Gift Aid cost me anything?

No additional money is taken with your donation. However, you are responsible for paying enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. If not, HMRC may ask you to pay the difference.

Can one declaration cover more than one donation?

A valid declaration can cover past, present or future donations when its wording identifies the donations it applies to and the relevant rules are met.

What if my circumstances change?

Tell the charity if you no longer pay enough relevant UK tax, if your name or home address changes, or if you want the declaration cancelled.
